Franklin "Gene" Thomason

April 8, 1950 — December 17, 2020

Mr. Franklin Eugene “Gene” Thomason, Jr., age 70, of Carrollton passed away suddenly, from a heart attack, on Thursday, December 17, 2020. He was born in Atlanta on Saturday, April 8, 1950. Mr. Thomason was the son of the late, Franklin “Bud” Thomason, Sr. and the late, Reba Nell (Plunkett) Thomason.

Mr. Thomason was a Temple High School Graduate, he served in the United States Marine Corps and was a Vietnam War Veteran. After getting an honorable discharge from the Marines, Gene returned to Temple, Ga and attended West Ga College for 2 years, dropped out and served as manager of Kentucky Fried Chicken, Carrollton, Ga for about 7 years. He then moved to Carrollton, Ga. and became the dye specialist and manager at Peds Products until retirement. Mr. Thomason was a faithful member and Chairman of the Board of Deacons at Bethel Baptist Church in Temple. If you heard a shout “Glory” that was Gene. He always put the Lord first in his life. Gene and Faye broadcasted a TV ministry program, “Reach out and Touch”. They also filmed the Southern Gospel Showcase as well as many services at Bethel Baptist Church and various other churches.  Gene was a wonderful husband and provider for his family. Mr. Thomason loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of over 49 years, Faye (Agan) Thomason of Carrollton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Christi (Ben) Nellenback of Tallapoosa and Staci (Trell) Moreland of Whitesburg; grandchildren, Trenton Moore and his longtime girlfriend, Lindsay Brown, both of Temple, Xavier Mooreland of Whitesburg, Mikenli Mooreland of Whitesburg and Natalee Nellenback of Tallapoosa. Mr. Thomason was also survived by his precious furbaby, Bubbles and a number of other relatives.

The family will receive guests at Bethel Baptist Church in Temple on Monday, December 21, 2020 from 1P.M. until 2P.M. (Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, masks and social distancing will be required during the visitation.)

A small family funeral service will begin at the Bethel Baptist Church on December 21, 2020 at 2P.M. with Pastor Todd Voyles and Pastor Barry Golden officiating. ( Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the family requests that the funeral service be limited to family. However, we will have a speaker placed outside the church for those who would like to stay and listen to the service)

Interment with Military Funeral Honors will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Mike Turnham officiating and the following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Edward Agan, Trenton Moore, Trell Moreland, Xavier Mooreland, Ben Nellenback and Mike Turnham.  Phillip Voyles will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the funeral home. These donations will be sent to a Veteran’s Charity (to be chosen by the family) following the funeral service.

Messages of condolence can be made to the family by signing the online guestbook.
