Gregory "Greg" Clay Burge

August 31, 1959 — January 15, 2025

Gregory Clay Burge, 65, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on January 15, 2025. Born on August 31, 1959, in Elkins, West Virginia, Greg was a man who embraced life’s simple joys and valued his family, friends, and God above all else. Gregory is deeply loved by his parents, Reverend Lawrence Pratt Burge and Eloise Evelyn Burge (deceased), and his family and friends.

In his youth, Greg was a standout athlete, earning All-American honors in both football and baseball during high school. His passion for sports continued throughout his life, and he could often be found riding motorcycles, hitting the driving range, or engaging in various athletic activities. Greg’s sense of humor and enthusiasm for life were infectious, and his laugh could light up any room. Greg never met a stranger and was known for being a big kid at heart, always ready to play and make others laugh. His love for life’s simple pleasures and his unwavering faith left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Greg embraced his faith early, always quick to seek forgiveness and free of grudges. Honesty was his hallmark, and he prioritized others’ needs above his own. A devoted church member, Greg spent much of his time serving God and others at Church On The Word in Douglasville, GA. Greg’s roles in church included: lead usher, head of security and leader of the Thunderboltz (motorcycle ministry). He had a deep love for all kinds of music, especially gospel, and sang countless hymns throughout his life.

Professionally, Greg wore many hats. He worked as a corrections officer, truck driver, transportation supervisor, FEMA, and as an umpire. His diverse career path showcased his hardworking nature and dedication to serving others.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gay Ann Burge (Garrett), and their children: daughter Anna Elizabeth Henderson (Josh), son Phillip Andrew Burge (Kelsie), daughter Rebekah Leigh Wilson (Troy), daughter Nina Leigh Carnes (Jadrien) and grandchildren Gracie, Norah, Conrad, Andy, Emma, Lily, RJ, Ronald.
