Mrs. Marilyn Tina (Gates) Johnson, age 88, of Boise, Idaho (formerly of Temple, Georgia) passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on Monday, October 22, 1934. Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of the late, C. Glen Gates and the late, Iola Ida (Tupy) Gates. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnson is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Robert Johnson.
Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Daniel and Judith Johnson of Woodland, Alabama and Mark Johnson of Carrollton: two daughters and one son-in-law, Debra Terrell of Dallas and Linda and Jeff Cates of Boise, Idaho. Mrs. Johnson is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and a number of other relatives.
Mrs. Johnson served as a Director of Nursing and retired with Shoreham Convalescent Center. She was also a member of District Line United Methodist Church. There she served as the Administrative Council Chair, as well as served on the board. She oversaw the upkeep of the church property. She served as the finance chair for WOW (Women of the World) and Trustees Chair for the church, which had her serve on Staff Parish Relations committee. She was also the church Historical Clerk. Mrs. Johnson loved baking and is well known for her cakes and pies. She operated her Chicken Soup Ministry within the church congregation. She was an excellent seamstress and quilter. Mrs. Johnson was a founding member for the East Point Fire Department fund raising events and the restoration of the facilities within the building.
In accordance with Mrs. Johnson’s wishes, she will be cremated.
Memorial services will be conducted on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 11A.M. from District Line United Methodist Church with Reverend Jessica Blackwood officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Church on Saturday, January 28, 2023, prior to the service, from 10 A.M. until the memorial service hour.
Inurnment will follow the memorial service in the District Line United Methodist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to District Line United Methodist Church. Please make all checks payable to District Line United Methodist Church.
