August 24, 1925 — November 22, 2016

Mary Helen Shadrix Steadham, 91, passed away as she wished—at home and in her sleep—on November 22, 2016. She was born August 24, 1925 in the Abilene community, to the late John Henry and Ella Spence Shadrix. Mrs. Steadham was a retired homemaker who helped her husband in his store, Steadham Clothing, for many years. She loved her family, taking pride in making sure her family and home were in tiptop shape. She loved shopping, her gorgeous angel collection, and her beloved gingko tree, which is now dressed in its full autumn finery.

Helen was a long-time member of Temple First Baptist Church.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, William (Bill) L. Steadham, Jr. and her brothers and sisters and their spouses, Wilmer and Clara Shadrix; Moses and Mattie Ellen Shadrix; Myrtie Mae Shadrix; Evelyn Moore Stone; Emmalene and Woodrow Weaver; Stanley Shadrix; Lois and J D Stamps; Melba and Pete Davis; Lee Shadrix; Audrey and Jack Manley; and Steve Shadrix.

She is survived by her sons and their wives, Doug and Rhonda Steadham and John and Zan Marie Steadham; two grandsons and their wives, Ron and Amy Steadham and Trey and Tina Steadham; and two great grandchildren, Megan and Cameron Steadham; sisters-in-law, Eris (Lee) Shadrix, and Gloria (Steve) Shadrix, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Croft Funeral Home, Temple, Georgia at 3 PM, Saturday, November 26, 2016, with her nephew, Russell Shadrix, officiating with music provided by Lynn Shadrix. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 1 to 3 PM. Interment will be in the Abilene Cemetery beside her husband, Bill Steadham. The pallbearers will be her grandsons, Ron and Trey Steadham, and nephews, Jimmy Barr, Buddy Phillips, Russell and Scott Shadrix.
