MGySgt Mark Eric "M.E." Cherry

Master Gunnery Sergeant Mark Eric “M.E.” Cherry, age 78, of Bremen passed away on Monday, June 12, 2023. He was born in Signal Mountain, Tennessee on Saturday, February 24, 1945. MGySgt Cherry was the son of the late, John Cherry and the late, Marguerite Iva (Beabout) Cherry. In addition to his parents, MGySgt Cherry is preceded in death by his daughter, Annett Cherry; two brothers, Glenn Allen Cherry and Michael Cherry; and by his sister, Joan Cherry.

MGySgt Cherry served in the United States Marine Corps. during the Vietnam War. He began his active-duty service in the Military in June of 1963 until his Honorable Discharge in July of 1988. Following his active-duty service, M.E. simultaneously worked for Delta Airlines as a Hydraulics Engineer while also serving in the United States Marines Corps. Reserves. MGySgt Cherry served 25 years in the Military before his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Linda (Pearson) Cherry of Bremen; his son and daughter-in-law, Russell Scott Cherry and Mae Cherry of Marietta; his step-son and wife, Dewayne Scott Long and Barbara Long of Cedartown; his step-daughter, Brandy Pearson of Melbourne, Florida; one brother and sister-in-law, John Stephen Cherry and Barbara Cherry of Rosemont, Ohio; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law (his caregivers), Mike Pearson of Bremen and Debbie Dills of Bremen; his grandson, Shawnn Bigley of Florida; his great-granddaughter, Mellissa Gamel of Bremen and a number of other relatives.

In accordance with MGySgt Cherry’s wishes, he will be cremated.

MGySgt Cherry’s urn will be interred at New Hope Cemetery in Dallas at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Master Gunnery Sergeant Mark Eric Cherry, can be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Kidney Fund.
