Steven "Steve" Ray Estes

Steven Ray Estes passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at his home in Villa Rica, Georgia. He was 71 years old. 

Steve was prematurely born on March 19, 1953 in Atlanta and as a result was blind from birth. He graduated from Therrell High School in Atlanta in 1971 and was awarded a BA degree from LaGrange College in English in 1975. He spent many happy years with his parents listening to his “talking books” and sports on the radio. He was an avid Braves fan and could recite scores, batting averages and player’s statistics from his incredible memory. In his later years he was a member of a number of book clubs who met through the online platform and he spoke of those groups so fondly. Steve also enjoyed singing whether with a group or solo and some of his favorite songs were from the gospel genre. 

Steve married Joan Lamar in March of 2006 and the couple resided in Villa Rica until Joan needed more care than Steve could provide. 

He is survived by his wife, her family and many cousins. 

Steve’s memorial service will be a private family occasion to be held on his birthday. To remember Steve, the family requests you find a song you think he would enjoy and sing or listen to it as you think of him.
